Charlie Leeroy Gilliard, Sr. was born on Tuesday, October 23, 1945 to John Henry Gilliard, Sr., and Anna Mae Gilliard in Lanes, SC. At the age of seven, Charlie and his family relocated to Philadelphia, PA where he was educated through the public school system. Shortly after, they moved to Camden, NJ where he met the love of his life, Wyvonnie. On July 12, 1969, Charlie and Wyvonnie took their wedding vows and out of their love four children were born. While in Camden, NJ, Charlie held positions with Cooper Hospital Medical Center, Waste Management Company and West Jersey Hospital. He also worked in Security for over 25 years with Rutger’s University. After he retired, Charlie, Wyonnie and their family relocated to Virginia Beach, VA. He gave his life to Christ, joined the Harvest the World Church Ministries, and served as a Deacon under the leadership of Bishop Nathaniel Ford. Charlie loved reading the newspaper every day and his favorite football team was the Philadelphia Eagles.
Charlie was preceded in death by his loving wife, Wyvonnie Gilliard; mother, Anna Mae Gilliard; father, John Henry Gilliard Sr; and one daughter, Yvette Alisa Gilliard.
Charlie leaves to cherish his fond memories, son, Charlie L. Gilliard Jr. (Sharon); daughters, Julita Long (Wykeen), Enjoli Gilliard; eight grandchildren, Charlie L. Gilliard III, Omni Gilliard, Lakiyah Gilliard, Yahsere Gilliard, Qwalil Gilliard, Kuade’ Gilliard, Gary Colemon III, Robert Colemon; three great grandchildren, Xena Gilliard, Ziyon Gilliard, Zhanae Gilliard; three brothers, John Gilliard, Donald Gilliard (Sandra), Michael Gilliard (Denise); sister-in-law, Vivan Brice (David); and a host of other relatives and friends.
